How do I use 40 Days and 40 Nights?
Although there are many ways that you can use these tonal processes, my suggestion is that you first use this system in the following way to initiate its intended alchemy, familiarize yourself with the tracks and begin the process:

1) Listen to the tracks in order.

2) Listen to only one track per day.

3) Listen to each track once in the morning when you wake up, and again before you go to sleep. This will take you approximately 8 minutes each time.

4) The next day, go to the next track, etc., for a total of 40 days and 40 nights.

I also recommend that during the first 8 days, you leave the track of the day to repeat continuously at your home when you’re not there. This is because the first 8 processes also work with balancing your environment.

After your 40 days and 40 nights are complete, I encourage you to repeat this process whenever you can. I also encourage you to use this palette of 40 tonal journeys in a variety of creative ways once you’ve gone through the full adventure.

If you've never used 40 Days and 40 nights before, the best time to begin using it is right now. If you've already gone through the program, it's best to use it during times of significant stress, transition or change in your life. You can also use 40 Days and 40 Nights to align yourself with the rhythms of nature by using it at or around your birthday and/or at or around the solstices.

Yes. It’s a good idea to play Environment whenever you’re not there to balance the environment.

Will the Healing section of 40 Days and 40 Nights interfere with any of my medications?
No.

Why does it sound like 40 Days and 40 Nights is just the same thing over and over again?
Although it might sound like it’s repeating, it never really does. Many of the variations in 40 Days and 40 Nights are microtonal, and are very difficult for even highly trained ears to discern. The appearance of repetition or near-repetition is one of the ways this music creates its effects. It takes some time to get over the structure of 40 Days and 40 Nights and just experience it for what it is. It’s all part of the process.

This music doesn’t turn me on or excite me. I just feel this big nothingness when I listen to it.

Exactly. Another term for what you’re describing is a state of balance. This is the objective of 40 Days and 40 Nights. It is not a motivational seminar. It empowers you by bringing you to your zero point.

How can 40 Days and 40 Nights influence both me and my environment?
If you look into the deep historical roots of the musical traditions of many if not all cultures, you’ll find that those cultures have used music and vibration as specific tools to communicate with and influence both themselves and their environments. So the idea is nothing new. Actually what’s new is our belief in separation. Every indigenous science that I know of takes it as given that the environment and its denizens are all alive, that we can communicate with them and that they will respond based on the essential alignment and delivery of the communication.

It’s in our best interests to get with the program. Actually I think we’d be better off with some practice listening to what our environments are telling us rather than concocting new ways to impose our wills into the world around us. That’s a practice that this system came out of to begin with, and it’s one of the major benefits of 40 Days and 40 Nights. So it’s a full circle thing.

What do you mean when you say that this information could be expressed as anything, not just as sound?

Tribal song and drumming, chanting of all kinds, ragas, even certain operas and symphonies are all joined together by at least one common thread: the application of the principles of sacred geometry through the vehicle of sound. Geometry is the essence of ratio. Any form conforms to ratio. So divine pattern can be imbued into anything if you calculate and craft it right.

Why do you believe that coherency is so important?

There are many types of sounds living in these tracks. There are the ones we perceive through our ears, others we perceive through our organ systems, others that we perceive through all of our senses combined, and still others that are invoked and perceived inwardly. When you blend all of these types of sound and knowledgeably direct them toward a specific purpose, it becomes a very powerful tool to achieve that aim. Biological systems respond to information. When we convey the same information to many systems at the same time it carries more weight and delivers more informational impact.
 
What makes your music different from Ambient or New Age music?

Ambient music used to be a term that loosely described any sort of environment-structuring use of sound. "Experts in the field" seized upon this term over the last few years with the rise in popularity of so-called Ambient music. The result was that Ambient music came to be as rigidly defined as any other commercially-based music.

Most healing music and nearly all New Age music is based on the principle of relaxation. Their music heals you through sounds that help your body to relax. That allows your natural healing mechanisms to take over and do their thing. It’s a valid principle.

40 Days and 40 Nights works environmentally. It utilizes the principles of relaxation juxtaposed with creative tension through the vehicle of multiple orders of sacred geometrical patterns expressed through sound and the absence of sound.

Why did I feel emotionally upset when I first listened to the Healing portion of 40 Days and 40 Nights?
Your response is a confirmation that the process is working. Some people feel a resistance when they experience something new. This music is unlike other music in that it is very intentional and precise in the technique it uses to achieve its goal. Every note and silence you hear bears multiple levels of significance. As you listen to it, some parts of you may be trying to figure out what’s going on. That can be challenging. 40 Days and 40 Nights operates on many levels of consciousness. Over several listenings, it will become more familiar and then even natural to you.

Like anything of value, it takes time to appreciate this music. I designed it to help you learn how to reach your own natural balance. That’s where your healing takes place. It's the point where you can connect most deeply with yourself. 40 Days and 40 Nights creates harmonious relationships within you. When you experience something as being dissonant, its resolution spontaneously, simultaneously and instantly evokes itself inside you.
40 Days and 40 Nights trains your sense of harmony and tolerance in this way. Your aversions and attractions will change as you continue to listen to it. It's like drinking medicinal herbs. When you first taste them, they seem so bitter, but then they seem to taste better as you continue to drink the herbs over time. It is you yourself who is changing. Your perceptions also change along with your healing.

Why do I feel agitated sometimes when I listen to 40 Days and 40 Nights?

The answer to this is similar to the answer above, but differs slightly. 40 Days and 40 Nights induces an alchemical process in your being. There's a certain kind of pressure that is associated with this alchemy. You're feeling the alchemy. Like we disussed above, your response is a confirmation that the process is working.

You'll go through many phases as you listen to 40 Days and 40 Nights and integrate it's teachings. This pressure is just one part of the process.

How is 40 Days and 40 Nights related to acupuncture?

The "new" sciences have established that all is energy. The science of acupuncture presents us with a coherent physiological model of living systems. You can describe this model in terms of the new physics and bio-electromagnetic fields. Within the realm of the science of acupuncture and Traditional Oriental Medicine, each organ system can be described, influenced and balanced using specific tones and intervals.

40 Days and 40 Nights is the result of combining and sequencing hundreds of these intervals together into iterative fractaloid patterns that correspond to the organic sequences found in nature. These same sequences form the mathematical basis of acupuncture meridian dynamics. This music thus represents and trains your biofield according to an informational system of natural balance without using force or coercion of any kind. It trains by example.

Does your music work on the chakras?
First to describe to those who may not be familiar with the term chakra. Chakra is a Sanskrit word that means wheel or energy center/vortex. The term chakra most classically refers to a kind of spiritual weapon that highly developed beings can use in the defense of Dharma. Yet most people who have little exposure to classical spiritual training know the term chakra to indicate one of the many energy centers in the body.

There is nothing mystical about these centers. Dr. Valerie Hunt has scientifically proven that many layers of energy fields surround us at all times. She went on to prove that within these energy fields there are condensed areas of energy that relate to the various organs of our bodies.

With that in mind, yes, this music works with the chakras, but it is more accurate to say that it works on the relationships between the chakras. It affects your entire energy field. I designed 40 Days and 40 Nights to be perceived through your whole energetic field. This is why I suggest listening to the music ambiently in a room using a full stereo rather than just with headphones. This way you can experience the entire space that 40 Days and 40 Nights creates with all of your senses. You hear with more than your ears.

I like to listen to certain tracks again and again. Is there anything wrong with that?

No. Once you’ve gone through the entire sequence of 40 Days and 40 Nights, I recommend using your "repeat" button to play either individual songs or an entire 8 track portion over and over again if you want to. Since a part of the harmonic structures in 40 Days and 40 Nights are based on vortex mechanics, repetition greatly enhances their effects.

40 Days and 40 Nights seems so disharmonious and irritating to me. How could that be healing?
Because we live in a masculine-dominant society, we’ve been culturally imprinted to favorably respond to male chord progressions (major chord progressions). 40 Days and 40 Nights expresses equal amounts of masculine (major) chord progressions, and feminine (minor) chord progressions, so it sounds unusual to our ears at first. This reaction is normal as your own innate sense of harmony is evoked and you attempt to balance inwardly what you perceive externally. This is one of the ways 40 Days and 40 Nights obtains its effects.

Another note on these strange sounds: It has been clinically demonstrated that unusual intervals of frequency and the use of overtones can destabilize and even explode pathological cells in vitro. It’s also interesting to note that in countries where these types of intervals occur in the in the indigenous or hybrid-indigenous/popular music, cancer rates are much lower than in those countries whose music doesn’t include the richness of these intervals. Of course it’s risky to connect the dots, but it’s equally unscientific to dismiss the potential correspondences between these data.

Why did you originally call this work Vulcan’s Child?
Here are some definitions for thought:

Vulcan (vul-kan) 1. The god of fire and metalworking, corresponding to the Greek god Hephaestus; the lame son of Jupiter and Juno, and the husband of Venus. 2. A blacksmith; an ironworker. 3. A planet supposed to have its orbit between the Sun and Mercury.

Vulcanian (vulkei-nian) 1. Of or pertaining to, characteristic of, or associated with Vulcan. 2. Fashioned or forged by Vulcan. 3. Volcanic.

Vulcan (related to the word volcano) is a hypothetical planet that astronomers speculated would be found orbiting between the Sun and Mercury. In Uranian astrology it represents powerful and explosive energy and force, especially an urge that one cannot quite control. Vulcan can also symbolize a person's reservoir of energy and the depletion of that energy.

In quantum physics, "V" represents frequency and "C" represents the speed of light.

Are there relationships between sound, light, color and DNA?
Everything can be related to everything through sound, because everything is sound on a fundamental level. The really important question is how significant are these relationships?

The answer to this question is that these relationships are not very significant when you take them individually. They exert only very subtle influences by themselves. However, through the precise and properly timed use of coherency, multiple levels of subtle influences can combine to form very powerful effects.

Let's take a look at acupuncture as a good example of this phenomenon: Getting pricked with a needle by itself has very few, if any, effects whatsoever. Yet when you place a needle correctly in the right place, and when it you cluster it together with other points in a synergistic array at the just right time, you can elicit very powerful effects. The power of these effects can in no way be predicted by the results of a random needle prick.

Traditional Asian Herbology works in a similar way. Very few of the herbs in the Asian Pharmacopoeia have any noticeable clinical effects if you take them by themselves. These herbs only produce beneficial effects when you take them within the context of an entire formula, where its particular synergisms can interact with the other herbs and within the physiochemistry/physioalchemy of the person who takes it. Different properties of the herbs are heightened and revealed when you take them in different combinations and in different contexts.

In my opinion, so-called western research into indigenous and alternative medicines has so far been completely misguided, because the researchers themselves have not yet learned to think holistically and environmentally. This is where nearly all of the foundation and wealth of the indigenous worldview resides. I believe we need to learn how to think about, research and utilize larger patterns of interactions of subtle energies and influences.
I think of the current research process like it’s a gigantic tin mine. The owners of the mine are so focused on finding tin that they have the miners throw away all of the precious metals and gems that they’re finding along the way.

When you listen to 40 Days and 40 Nights, each note you hear is meticulously chosen according to its individual and synergistic characteristics and qualities. It’s very much like a traditional herbal concoction made with sound. These sounds were determined by oscilloscopic, cymatic, psychological, kinesiological and other testing. The sequences and overlays of the sounds you hear are reflective of specific geometrical progressions and interval relationships found in nature.

40 Days and 40 Nights is natural music in the truest sense of the word because it reflects the harmonies and ratios of the natural world. The language of 40 Days and 40 Nights is something that all of life as we know it has in common. It's something that all humanity can share beyond culture, beyond race, beyond nationalities and beyond beliefs.

It feels like there's energy in these tracks, or that energy is coming from the music somehow. Is this real or is it just my imagination? What's going on? How is this possible?

40 Days and 40 Nights creates sequences of vibratory patterns in your environment. These sequences can catalyze an effect of unlocking or releasing energy that may have otherwise remained hidden or in latency. You may be aware of these sequential openings as you listen to it.

Why did you create 40 Days and 40 Nights?
40 Days and 40 Nights uses the principles of vibrational medicine to heal the planet and ourselves by utilizing a vast multiplicity of locations incessantly, rather than creating a singular large event in one location. Utilizing the principles of holism, my aim is to combine the subtle effects of many seemingly small or insignificant pieces into an extremely potent, yet unrecognizable and unidentifiable movement of catalytic healing energy whose effects can only be discerned over time and from a holistic perspective.

My goal is to help you heal yourself and the planet each day from your own central reference point and domain. This is where you’re most powerful already.  

How is 40 Days and 40 Nights related to Concorus?
40 Days and 40 Nights works with the essential algorithmic structures of Concorus. It applies them to 5 specific situations and archetypal patterns that can benefit from these environmental treatments. Since I was working with a medium that was based on dimensions of repetition (audio files) I utilized the Concorus technology in a way that differs from the way you would use Concorus in its original CD- ROM format, which is continuous, non-repeating and ever changing.

To understand Concorus, we first need to understand the phenomena of Chi and resonance.

The amount of Chi we have access to is directly proportional to the degree to which we embody and/or reflect the natural world with our own personal being.

Concorus embodies a subtle holistic synergism of scientific, mathematical and medical knowledge to create its effects. It’s a quantum probabilistic representation of the dynamic universe. As such it functions as a point of resonance or consonance with the way things tend to behave in any particular moment. It's a window through which we can train ourselves to spontaneously embody that resonance ourselves. After all, this is what we are.
Concorus helps us to become consciously aware of these aspects of ourselves that are dynamic and connected parts of the universe. These parts are already there in their perfection. Concorus doesn't infuse you with energies other than yourself. It helps the essential parts of you to come out. I respect this concept so much that I wanted to form a core of 5 essential alchemical processes around it as a central meeting place. I did not decide to create these processes. I discovered them from the inner mathematics of the material I was researching.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Concorus is that it is in every respect a living being. It makes choices, responds to its environment through multiple feedback mechanisms, profoundly influences its environment, it changes, grows and personally evolves. So does our relationship with it over time.

Concorus is based on the incredible power of simplicity. 40 Days and 40 Nights gratefully received this simplicity as its essential form, because Concorus is its great shaman-composer. Beyond that, I took these essential algorithms and deepened the form of their expression into full acoustic soundscapes for balance, healing, resolution, transition and creating a new way.
